FHTAGN! An Abhorrent Album of Lovecraftian Loathsomeness

2024

FHTAGN! is Mayhem Lettuce's interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft's classic tale of cosmic horror - The Call of Cthulhu. Clocking in at just over 20 minutes, this album is more short story than novel, which we feel is fitting for such an adaptation.

For this album, we deliberately altered our approach to song-writing, aiming for a looser, more ambient, witchy sound than is typical for us. This album is moodier, darker, and more ethereal than previous outings with a focus on texture and rhythm over melody. The result is a collection of dreamy, experimental pieces of drastically varied lengths that flow together sonically and thematically.

There Goes the Cake

2023

After remaking a handful of songs from our first album - 1999's Here Comes the Cake - for inclusion on various EPs released during the pandemic years, we asked ourselves "What would that album sound like if we recorded it today?" The answer to that question and many others can be found on There Goes the Cake! Help us celebrate our 30th anniversary as a band with this completely new take on a dozen of our favorite super old songs!

Each track has been re-written, re-recorded, and/or re-mixed to provide a brand new listening experience even to our most dedicated fans. You may have heard these songs before but never quite like this!

Complete Sentences

2022

Complete Sentences is Mayhem Lettuce's most introspective, soul-searching, deeply confessional album yet. It's an album of self-discovery, coming to terms with one's past, and celebrating one's nerdy obsessions with psychedelic music, Star Wars, and astronomy. It's about escaping toxic relationships, stumbling into healthy ones and navigating adulthood.
It's got pastiches of Ride, Leonard Cohen, and the Violent Femmes! It's got a song that quotes both Dune and Star Trek! It's got a song about that kid on YouTube who freaked out about Sonic the Hedgehog! Complete Sentences has something for everybody!

Invisible Songs

2021

Mayhem Lettuce's fifth album is a tribute to and celebration of Grant Morrison's The Invisibles comic book. We've incorporated elements of jazz and electronica into many of the tracks to match the globe-spanning, time traveling feel of the book. We tried to distill the cast of characters, mind-blowing plotline, and underlying philosophies of the book into a bite-sized album of cool, trippy, spoken-word songs

On the Spectrum

2020

After sitting, 90% finished for 17 years, the fourth Mayhem Lettuce album is finally here! This album marks a lyrical transition from post-adolescent pining over unavailable women to chronicling the hopes and fears of a new father. Grahm's first daughter was born in late 2001 and her coming into the world greatly affected his songwriting.

Mayhem Lettuce's third album is a concept piece exploring the disintegration of a romantic relationship through Peter Pan imagery. The album is divided into six trios of songs. Each trio consists of an instrumental piece to establish the mood, a spoken word piece to tell that part of the story, and a song to display the emotional core of the trio.

Sins Against Grandma

1999

Simultaneously darker and funnier than our debut, Mayhem Lettuce's sophomore album is a deeply weird collection of rock songs and introspective poetry.

Here Comes the Cake

1999

Mayhem Lettuce's debut album was recorded between 1997 and 1999, largely by playing live into a cassette recorder. We hope you enjoy the lo-fi King Missile-esque charm of us fumbling our way towards competence.
